• Adding logical JBODs.
• Using a local HPSSA tool to perform an array expansion and logical drive extension of existing logical drives. Performing
the array expansion and logical drive extension will increase the number of member disks and extend the logical drive to
use the capacity of the larger array.
HBA
Add logical JBODs in HBA mode.
RAID
HPE OneView does not support expanding an existing logical drive. The following options detail how to use HPE OneView to
either add more logical drives or modify existing logical drives.
A user can expand local storage using the RAID mode by doing one of the following:
• Adding more logical drives.
• Deleting an existing logical drive and creating a larger logical drive.
CAUTION: This action will delete data from the existing logical drive. Back up and restore the drive data prior to
performing this operation.
Editing server profile
IMPORTANT: The server must be offline and powered down before editing a server profile.
Reducing the number of frames in a logical enclosure without losing D3940 data.
HPE OneView supports the ability to grow the number of frames in the logical enclosure by using existing features
documented within HPE OneView. However, in order to reduce the number of frames, you must complete the following steps in
order to delete an old logical enclosure and then create a new logical enclosure without losing data.
Data is deleted in one of the two following ways:
• Creating a new logical JBOD.
• Deleting a server profile. Data will only be deleted in this instance if erase on delete was previously selected when the
server profile was created. For more information, see
Creating Gen10 server profiles.
Procedure
1.
Label the old drive positions.
2.
Record which drives were assigned to each server in HPE OneView.
3.
Power down the servers.
4.
Remove all drives from the D3940.
5.
Delete the HPE OneView logical enclosure.
6.
Insert spare drives into the D3940.
The spare drives must be the same drive type as the drives removed in step 4.
