parts are completely stopped and disconnect the spark plug.

Release the air filter cover
(fig. 28A)
.

. Be careful to prevent dirt and debris from falling
into the air filter base.

FOAM ELEMENT FILTER
PLEATED AIR FILTER
5.
Wash the cover and filter element
(fig. 29C)
in warm soapy water, rinse, and allow to
dry thoroughly. Or clean in non-flammable
solvent and allow to dry. DO NOT USE
GASOLINE!
To loosen debris, gently tap the filter
(fig. 29E)
on a hard surface. Never try to
brush the dirt off, brushing will force dirt
into the fibers. If the filter is excessively
dirty, replace with a new filter.
6.
Dip the filter element in clean engine oil,
then squeeze out all excess oil. The engine
will smoke if too much oil is left in the foam.
If the machine is equipped with a foam
prefilter:
Wash the pre-filter in warm soapy water,
rinse, and allow to dry thoroughly. Or clean
in non-flammable solvent and allow to dry.
Do not use gasoline! DO NOT OIL THE PRE-
FILTER.

Reassemble the air cleaner.

Close the cover
(fig. 29B)
and secure it.
Note:
I
Replace filter if frayed, torn, damaged or unable to be cleaned.
SPARK PLUG
For best results, replace the spark plug every 100 hours of use. Use only the recommended spark
plug which is the correct heat range for normal engine operating temperatures. To find actual
types of recommended spark plugs please contact an authorized service center.
CAUTIONG!
A
If the engine has been running, the muffler and the spark plug will be
very hot. Be carefull not to touch this parts.
Note:
I
Incorrect spark plugs can cause engine damage.
For good performance, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits.
1. Disconnect the cap
(fig. 30A)
from the spark plug and remove any dirt from the spark plug
area.
2. Use the proper size spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug
(fig. 31A)
.
3. Inspect the spark plug. Replace it if damaged, badly fouled, if the sealing washer is in poor
condition, or if the electrode is worn.
