Connecting RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 in a 2-wire or 4-wire configuration

Select the type of interface using DIP switches S1 to S6. Also see Fig. 4.1 on page 11.

Connection via RS‐232

The RS-232 interface allows an AED to be directly connected to a PC. The length of the
cable is limited to 15m, and only one AED at a time can be connected to each interface of
the PC.

Connection via RS‐422

The RS‐422 is a 4-wire interface with a maximum cable length of 1000m. Only one AED
at a time can be connected to each interface. This interface requires a bus termination at
both ends (PC and AED). Bus termination may only be switched on at the end points of
the bus (max. 2 termination resistors active), also see section 7.1.1, page 26. If neces
sary, slide the bus termination switch on the AED to on and activate the resistors with the
bus commands

STR1;TDD1;. The factory setting is off.

Connection via RS‐485

The advantage of this interface is that you can connect several AEDs to one interface on
the PC. You have two options for connection via the RS‐485 interface:
