12 MECHANICAL DETAILS

The outline dimensions of the PIU is shown in Figure 20 below. The PIU reference unit also uses

the same case and therefore has the same outline dimensions.

The PIU unit weighs 1 Kg, including the battery.

12.1 Environmental Protection

The PIU is rated to IP65 when the connector cover is secured in place. This protects the unit

from both dust and water splash ingress. The unit should only be charged indoors or from

within a covered vehicle. The charger supplied with the unit cannot be used outdoors.

12.2 Removing the Connector Cover

The unit’s connector cover, located at the base of the unit – see Figure 21, must be removed in

order to both charge the unit and also to use the USB connectivity.
