Instrument Setup
3.1
Initial Start-Up
3.1.1
Before plugging the wall transformer into an AC outlet, connect the round
barrel receptacle to the instrument. The Connector is located on the left-
hand side of the instrument directly under the on/off switch.
3.1.2
Turn the power switch off and plug the wall transformer into the unit.
3.1.3
Place the Reagent Pack on the shelf behind the instrument and connect the
Reagent Pack phone type connector to the receptacle on the right-hand
side of the instrument. If the Reagent Pack is not plugged in when the unit
is turned on, the message "SELF-TEST FAILURE: Pack not connected"
will appear. Turn unit off, connect Reagent Pack and turn unit on to
continue.
3.1.4
Remove the caps from the Reagent Pack and insert the properly labeled
reagent cannulas in the appropriate bottles. Customer needs to supply DI
water container and place DI labeled line in the water for the rinse cycles.
3.1.5
Place the waste tube in the waste container.
3.1.6
Turn the instrument on. The instrument will go through a self-test and then
display “prime” or “continue”
3.1.7
Press <F1> to prime. Two primes are required on initial set up.

Operating Instructions
4.1
General Guidelines
4.1.1
Make sure the specimen smears are thoroughly dry before placing them
into the cuvette.
4.1.2
Use high quality clean slides. Slides that have variable thickness may
have variable staining results.
CAUTION:
The AFB-PRO will only accept stain packs with an included module sold by
Hardy Diagnostics’ QuickSlide™ to ensure optimal results. The instrument is
calibrated only for these reagents. The use of other stain packs or solutions will
void the warranty.
Always remove the tubing kit cannulas from bottles before
moving unit
Transport unit with care
Dropping the unit may cause internal and external damage to the
instrument
Never operate the unit with damaged power supply
Repairs are to be carried out only by qualified service personnel
