$ sudo apt-get install gpsd gpsd-clients foxtrotgps
Then, configure gpsd using the following command and options,
then reboot:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure gpsd

Q. Should gpsd handle attached USB GPS receivers automatically?

Run the gpsmon command:
$ gpsmon
You should see a screen like that shown in the screenshot be-
low. The $GPRMC lines will scroll at the bottom of the screen, which
indicates that the application is actually receiving the GPS information
from the gpsd daemon.
Gpsmon display
From a terminal window, launch the foxtrotgps application using
the following command:
$ foxtrotgps
Note that the display of a live map requires the presence of a
working internet connection. If you wish to see a real-time map while
