Basic Installation
Hale Products, Inc., August - 06, Rev-B
CAUTION !
ALL FASTENERS ON THE HALE PUMP AND GEARBOX ASSEMBLY ARE
SELECTED FOR THEIR APPLICATION. HALE PRODUCTS DOES NOT REC-
OMMEND REPLACING FASTENERS WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN HALE
PART NUMBERS PROVIDED. REPLACING WITH A WEAKER ALTERNATIVE
POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK.
ALL FASTENERS MUST BE INSTALLED WITH A LOCKING ANAEROBIC
ADHESIVE/SEALANT, SUCH AS LOCTITE® #246 FOR GEARBOX AND #242
FOR PUMP.
Wherever there is a requirement for new parts, it is recommended to use
only Hale authorized replacement parts for optimum safety of the equip-
ment and its operators and to reduce unnecessary “downtime.”
Issues
It is critical to use computer driveline analysis software, such as Dana’s
“The Expert,” during driveline layout. Dana’s software is available free on
the World Wide Web at:
http://www2.dana.com/expert
When performing calculations, strive to achieve the lowest driveline tor-
sional and inertial vibrations, making sure to avoid severe driveline angles.
Be conservative and always err on the side of SAFETY. Always measure
the drive shaft after construction to make sure it matches the computer
design.
Remember the following points while designing a driveline:
❑
Problems can occur with or without noticeable vibration.
❑
Do not measure driveline angles using a bubble protractor. Instead, use
a digital inclinometer. Remember to zero the inclinometer on the truck
frame, not the ground.
❑
Center the sliders.
Long drivelines can lead to component vibration or failure. As the driveline
approaches half critical speed, a vibration will occur that can damage drive-
line components.
