Accessing the device for the first time
To access the device for the first time, use a serial console cable to connect a console terminal (for
example, a PC) to the serial console port on the device.
Connecting the device to a configuration terminal
A serial console cable is an 8-core shielded copper cable, with a crimped RJ-45 connector at one
end for connecting to the serial console port on the device, and a DB-9 female connector at the other
end for connecting to the serial port on the configuration terminal.

CAUTION:
•
Identify the mark for the console port and make sure you are connecting to the correct port.
•
The serial ports on PCs do not support hot swapping. If the device has been powered on,
connect the serial console cable to the PC before connecting to the device, and when you
disconnect the cable, first disconnect from the device.
To connect the device to a configuration terminal by using a serial console cable:
1.
Connect the DB-9 female connector of the serial console cable to the serial port on the
configuration terminal.
2.
Connect the RJ-45 connector to the serial console port on the device.
