Setting the time
The earth spins round on its axis once every 24 hours, and around the sun once a year.
This movement determines global time differences and seasons. Because of the earth’s rota-
tion, it is always earlier in the day to the west of you and later in the day to the east of you.
The earth is divided into 24 hourly time zones. This system is based on a standard time
zone called UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), previously known as GMT (Greenwich
Mean Time). Short-wave radio stations always announce the time in UTC.
To find out which time-zone you are in, have a look at the map of the world on the back of
the device.

When you first switch on the device, or if it has been without a power supply for a lengthy
