Important technical terms – easily explained!
HD ready
The HD ready label classifi es the technical features of LCD TVs and
their ability to show high resolution television pictures (HDTV). The
European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics
Technology Industry Association (EICTA) has defi ned the guidelines
for HD ready certifi cation:
– In a 16:9 wide-screen format, the display must have a physical
vertical picture resolution of at least 720 lines.
– The electronics must be able to process analogue as well as
digital signals for high resolution video pictures.
– A high-quality component input (YUV) with a progressive
picture display must be available for analogue picture signals.
– HDMI or DVI connections can be used for digital picture signals.
– The digital connections must be coupled with the HDCP copy
protection
system.
Full HD with 1920 x 1080 pixels
Full HD means “high defi nition television”. This refers to the characte-
ristics of a HDTV compatible television which is able to generate the
highest possible HD resolution of 1:1. The best televisions have the
highest possible resolution in High Defi nition, namely 1920 x 1080
pixels in full screen.
Motion Compensation
Grundig has been the fi rst to achieve the technology for Full HD with
Motion Compensation, which provides outstanding picture quality for
natural motion and even for fast movements, such as in sports. For
every two movement phases, the device calculates a third and inserts
it between them. This makes the picture smoother, sharper and more
detailed. Above all, this eliminates the blurring and jerking motions
which often occur during fast camera movements.
Digital Reference Plus II technology
The picture improvement technology, Digital Reference Plus II
optimises the control for each individual pixel in the signal proces-
sing, and simultaneously recognises and removes picture faults.
Digital 3D comb fi lter
On old TV sets the picture often shows shimmering colour distortions
in fi ne structures such as found on coarsely-woven or checked
material. To minimize this distortion, a state-of-the-art 3D comb fi lter
is integrated as part of Grundig's picture improvement concept for
the HD Evolution LCD TVs.
Digital Colour Transition Improvement (DCTI)
and Digital Luminance Transition Improvement
(DLTI)
In addition to the digital 3D comb fi lter, there is the Digital Colour
Transition Improvement (DCTI) and the Digital Luminance Transition
Improvement (DLTI), which are also part of the Grundig picture
improvement concept. DCTI improves the colour display on the
screen as it counteracts the “blurring” of colours. DLTI heightens the
black and white contours on the television picture and improves the
differences in brightness on the screen.
Larger viewing angle
The larger viewing angle of 178° allows you to enjoy the picture
quality of the Grundig HD Evolution LCD TVs from practically any
camera angle without losing any colour or brightness. Just what you
need for getting together with the whole family for pure television
enjoyment in front of a large-format fl at screen TV.
Virtual Dolby® Surround
Virtual Dolby® Surround is technology developed by Dolby that
simulates the sound of a surround system on your television
loudspeakers. Dolby Surround Effect was created as an innovative,
electronic solution which is integrated in the television and only
requires two loudspeakers.
HDMI/DVI
HDMI (High Defi nition Multimedia Interface) is the digital connection
of the future. An HDMI cable transmits signals for digital pictures,
digital surround sound and digital appliance control. The digital
picture connection must have the state-of-the-art HDCP copy
protection system (High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
Digital Video Interface (DVI) is an interface for digitally transferring
video data – for LCDs with DIGI 200 chassis and for digital audio
signals. Using a DVI input on the television, signals from digital
sources such as a HDD recorder or a DVD player are processed.
Complete digital transmission means you gain signifi cant improve-
ments in the picture quality compared to a SCART cable connection.
Converting from digital to analogue and back to digital is no longer
necessary when using DVI.
Progressive Scan (YUV)
Progressive Scan is technology for the picture structure on television
sets. The television is fed with real full frames instead of the usual
alternate fi elds. The picture is then sharper and smoother and
fl ickering is completely eliminated. To get this connection, television
sets require a source that can transmit the Progressive Scan pictures
(such as a DVD player) either an analogue VGA or YUV input
(Component Video) or a digital DVI or HDMI connection.
System remote control PR 100/TP 170 C
Four in one – the system remote control replaces up to four remote
controls and can operate all the functions of your television, DVB
receiver, HDD/DVD recorder and DVD player. The remote control is
specially designed for our high-class range of televisions.
The distinctive Grundig Telepilot design shows its quality with the
silver metallic surfaces and the improved feel and balance.
