3. To ensure carriage components do not unex-
pectedly move during following steps, disen-
gage half-nut lever and feed selection lever
(see
Figure 22).
4. Set spindle lever in OFF (middle) position
(see
Figure 22).
5. Rotate Emergency Stop button clockwise so
it pops out (see
Figure 23).
6. Set spindle speed range lever in Low (L)
range (see
Figure 23).
7. Turn variable spindle speed dial fully counter-
clockwise so spindle will turn at lowest speed
at startup (see
Figure 23).
8. Turn rotary ON/OFF switch to ON.
9. Push Power button (see Figure 23), move
spindle lever (see
Figure 22) down to start
spindle rotation, then turn variable spindle-
speed dial (see
Figure 23) until spindle
speed tachometer indicates 70 RPM. Top of
chuck should turn down and toward the front
of the lathe.

When operating correctly, the machine will
run smoothly with little or no vibration or
rubbing noises.
— Investigate and correct abnormal noises
or vibrations before operating the
machine further. Always disconnect the
machine from power when investigating or
correcting potential problems.
10. Push Emergency Stop button to turn lathe
OFF, then, without resetting Emergency Stop
button, try to restart spindle rotation, as
instructed in
Step 8. The spindle should not
start.
— If spindle rotation does start with
Emergency Stop button pressed in, the
Emergency Stop button safety feature is
not operating correctly. This safety feature
must operate properly before continuing
operation. Use spindle lever to stop lathe,
disconnect it from power, and call Tech
Support for help.
11. Move spindle lever to OFF (middle) position,
and reset Emergency Stop button by twisting
it clockwise until it pops out.
12. Press power button, then press and briefly
hold the jog button (see
Figure 23), then
release it. The spindle should rotate when the
jog button is pressed and come to a complete
stop when released.
13. Ensure work lamp functions properly.
Congratulations! The test run is complete. Turn
the lathe
OFF and perform the following Spindle
Break-In procedure.
