SPARK PLUG
SPARK PLUG CLEANING
The spark plug should be cleaned and inspected according to the maintenance schedule.
1. Remove any carbon deposits from the spark plug electrodes with a wire brush.
2. Clean the threads of the spark plug and the upper electrical terminal.
To inspect and adjust the spark plug groove:
1. With the help of a thickness gauge to measure the distance of the spark plug. The gauge must slide with
little resistance between the electrodes, which means that the measurement is quite accurate.
2. Adjust the distance according to the specifications. If the distance is to be reduced, tap the electrode as
necessary. If the distance has to be increased, use pliers to gently pull the electrode as needed.
3. Re-measure the distance and make sure it is within the specified range before replacing the spark plug.
SPARK PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
To remove the spark plug:
1. Pull the power cable from the terminal above the spark plug.
2. Clean the area around the spark plug so that no dirt or other material gets into the engine when the spark
plug is removed.
3. Use the spark plug tool to remove the spark plug (turn counterclockwise).
To install the spark plug:
1. Place the spark plug in its hole and screw it in (turn clockwise) until it is tight enough.
2. Use the spark plug tool to tighten it about a quarter turn (without over-threading).
3. Place the power cord on top of the spark plug terminal and push it down so that it is firmly connected to
