General Troubleshooting

Program Loading Indicators

If the system passes all bootup tests, the LEDs listed above will turn off. 
The 68302 then checks for a system program in the flash EEPROM. If there 
is a system program, it is loaded into the RAM of both processors and both 
processors start running from their RAM. The 68020 RAM is downloaded 
first. During this process the following LEDS will flash briefly:

■

Background LED lights during program download (executable code). 

■

Field LED lights during downloading of constants and variables. 

Normal Operation Indicators

After the bootup process is finished and the system program is loaded into 
the RAM, the system pauses for a second and then starts normal operation 
running from RAM. The LEDs for both processors start operation at this 
time. Now the LEDs have the following meaning: 

■

Field LEDs light during panel scanning and hardware read/write. 
These are generally lit dimly most or all of the time.

■

Background LEDs light during background tasks. These are generally 
lit brightly most or all of the time.

■

DS8 flashes on a serial port interrupt. This indicates activity on one of 
the five serial ports and can be used to check that serial port 
communication is occurring. 

■

Ten serial port LEDs flash to indicate read or write activity on a specific 
port. The LED designations are the same as the names of the port 
connectors on the frame rear panel. If you are attempting to read or 
write into a port and the appropriate LEDs do not light, there is 
probably a hardware problem in the sending/receiving device, the 
Model 1200 serial drivers, serial port configuration jumpers, or the 
interconnecting cable. If there is a UART setup error, the LEDs should 
still operate properly.

SPG Module DS1 (525 lines) or DS2 (625 lines) lights constantly to 
indicate that the system is locked to the External Reference Input. If 
neither LED is lit, the system is not genlocked; check that the external 
reference signal is present.
