Stepping and
Unstepping…
and stays can be slackened and disconnected from turnbuckles.
All their cotter and coupling pins must be taped on in place to
facilitate reassembling.
• All shrouds, stays and running rigging must be securely tied to the
mast to avoid bending and over stressing during the operation.
This is particularly important for all rod components and especial-
ly for the Genoa furler.
• Lift the mast rubber collar by pushing it from below decks.
• The mast is now totally held by the crane and can be lifted with
great care. Once in the air, it may be moved to an appropriate place
and carefully lowered and laid horizontally on at least four
“horses” taking care not to pinch any part of the rigging or wiring.
All antennas and wind indicators must be removed and protected.
To step in the mast follow these directions in reversed order.
Halyard exits on the mast
The following drawing illustrates the correct exits on the mast foot
for halyards and other running rigging components.
• Use it as reference when stepping the mast or replacing a halyard.
