SECTION 4 - OPERATING CONTROLS
4.1 Controls
A. With the exception of the MAIN POWER SWITCH, all of the operating controls
are located on the LCD Digital Touchscreen. The operator should become very
familiar with these controls and their functions
BEFORE
operating the instrument.
Refer to FIGURE 4.1.
1.
DID HV
– The Discharge Ionization Detector High Voltage can be set using
this box. The normal operating range is 525 – 600 V and will increase to 800 V
to “spark” the arc.
2.
DID ImA
– This is the Discharge Current for the DID. This is a read-only
display.
3.
POL VOLT
: Sets the polarization voltage of the detector. Normal is 160 V or
increased voltage to approximately 250 V for neon impurity analysis.
4.
DID SIG
– The output signal to data collection (mV). This is a read-only
display.
5.
VALVE CONTROLS
– Blue indicates counter-clockwise (CCW) position and
Green indicates clockwise (CW) position.
6.
COLUMN TEMP
- Sets and reads the temperature of the column oven.
7.
DETECTOR TEMP
– Sets and reads the temperature of the detector.
8.
DID ZERO
: Adjusts the signal offset in order to establish the baseline position
on the recorder.
9.
OFFSET
– Sets a desired baseline offset over zero.
10.
IGNITE
– Increases the DID voltage to 800 V to ignite the polarization. DID
should run at 525 – 600 V once lit.
11.
RANGE
- Adjusts the amplification of the electrometer by a factor of 10.
Range 1 (R1) is the most sensitive decreasing to Range 4 (R4) being the least
sensitive and ideal starting point.
12.
GAIN ADJUST
- Adjusts the amplification of the range. Gain 1 is the least
sensitive while Gain 4 is the most sensitive.
13.
EXTERNAL VALVE (ON/OFF)
– This allows the operator to control the valves
from the touchscreen (off) or control the valves using software with contact
closure controls (on).
14.
SHUTDOWN
– This will turn off the LCD digital display and shutdown the
display in preparation of powering off the instrument.
NOTE
A KEYPAD WILL POP UP WHEN THE FOLLOWING ENTRY BOXES ARE PRESSED:
DID HV, POL VOLT, COLUMN TEMP, DETECTOR TEMP AND OFFSET BASELINE.
THE NUMERIC VALUE MUST BE KEYED IN AND
ENTER
MUST BE PRESSED TO
ACCEPT THE SET POINT. PRESS
OK
WHEN FINISHED TO EXIT AND CLOSE THE
KEYPAD
