USING SCRAPERS
Two types of scrapers are available for use with the SAM-3 when brushes are
not aggressive enough. When using the scrapers, a ferrule extension must be
used to keep the scraper from coming back into the SAM-3 and becoming stuck.
See the Goodway catalog for details.
CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT
If the SAM-3 has difficulty pushing through the tube, the clutch may need
adjustment. This is not uncommon during the first few uses of the unit as new
parts are wearing into each other.
1. Remove the gearbox lid and wipe off excess grease.
2. Inspect the gasket (P/N 672) and replace if necessary.
3. Loosen the setscrew (P/N 629) inside of the adjustment bolt and loosen the
adjustment bolt as well.
4. Tighten the bolt (P/N 651) until lightly finger tight, making sure all the spring
washers are centered.
5. Turn the adjustment bolt exactly 1

turns [9 ft.-lbs.(12 newton-meters) of
torque]. Push the switch in reverse and check to see that the bronze gear
(P/N 626) slips slightly. If not, back off slightly on the adjustment bolt until
slight slippage occurs. Securely tighten the setscrew to lock the adjustment.
6. Replace the gasket and lid and torque the lid nuts to 50 inch-lbs.
(5.6 newton-meters).
NOTE:
Never tighten the clutch to the point that it does not slip. If it takes

turns or more, replace the fiber discs (P/N 625).
LUBRICATION
The gearbox requires a semi-fluid grease filled to the top (P/N SAM3-LUBE). The
motor is equipped with a prelubricated sealed bearing and requires no additional
lubrication.
IMPORTANT: NEVER APPLY OIL OR GREASE TO THE STEEL TAPE OR THE
BEARINGS.
These parts should be kept clean and dry for proper operation of
the machine.
