6.   POST-CLEANING (NEUTRALIZING, SHUTTING

DOWN, STORAGE)

Neutralizing the Descaling Solution

1.

WARNING:

Do not dump low pH solution into sink or drains! Solution must

be neutralized first! Typical minimum allowable pH is 5.5 to be able to be

dumped into normal drains. Check with local, state and federal laws regarding

the dumping of used descaling solution.

2.

Goodway’s ScaleBreak® may be neutralized with an acid neutralizing agent

(e.g. sodium carbonate/soda ash).

3.

 Slide

pH Controller Switch

to

“OFF”.

4.

 Leave

Main Pump

 Switch On (up position).

5.

 Close

Valve #3

 (Pump Output Valve) about ¾.

6.

  Remove lid from

Venting Drum

. Be careful with the over-splash.

7.

SLOWLY

add the neutralizing agent to the

Venting Drum

. Monitor the pH

level – it should rise.

8.

Continue to add neutralizing agent until pH is at an acceptable level

(nominally 6.0 – 8.0).

IMPORTANT:

DO NOT ADD NEUTRALIZING AGENT TOO QUICKLY!!! Certain

reactions will cause severe foaming and overflow the venting drum.

SHUTTING DOWN

Once the descaling solution is neutralized:

1.

Close the valves on the hoses.

2.

Disconnect the hoses from the vessel. Leave the hoses attached to the

Descaling Unit.

3.

Drain the descaling solution into an appropriate container or down a wastewater

drain by opening

Valves #1

#2

,

 and

#3

and the valves on the hoses.

4.

When done draining the unit, close all valves on the unit.

5.

Remove lid and fill Venting Drum with at least 10 gallons (37.8 L) of clean water.

6.

  Place the

Chemical Pickup

Hose in a bucket of clean water (1/2 gallon min).

7.

 Open

Valves #1, #2, and #3

and the valves on the hoses.

8.

  Slide the

pH Controller Switch

 to

“ON”

.

9.

When the Venting Drum is empty, turn the

pH Controller Switch

 to

“OFF”

.

10.

The pump can be drained be removing the plug at the bottom of the pump

head. Access is from under unit, on the left side (same side as the

pH Sensor

)

11.

  Remove the plug (

DO NOT LOSE!!

).

12.

   When pump in drained,

replace plug.

13.

   Close

Valves #1, #2, and #3

on

the unit.

14.

  Disconnect the hoses.

15.

   Follow steps for storage of

pH Sensor

.
