RP6 ROBOT SYSTEM - APPENDIX
8. The Rubber tracks do not move smoothly / are bent
●
First: A slight assymetrical rotatation is nothing to worry about – especially
when the track runs freely and is not touching the ground. Though, if this is
more severe and causes high variation of the movement speed within a turn,
you should check it a bit more in detail. This can happen when the RP6 has
not been used for a long time. Then the rubber may “remember” the elliptic-
al shape that it is in when it is fitted onto the wheels and not moving. You
can TURN the wheels such that the “bump” is in the middle between the
wheels and then leave it like that. After a day or so, rotate it such that the
bump moves around one complete turn (it must be in the same position af-
terwards). Let it stand another day like that. When this does not help, re-
move the track from the wheels with a sliding movement (rotate the wheels,
and move the track off sideways along with the movement). Try to pull and
stretch the track into the opposite direction of where the bump is in order to
create a circle shape again. When this is done (roughly, does not need to be
perfect), put it back on the tracks again with sideways sliding movement.
Then try again to let it rotate with the Motors for 2 minutes.
●
Try to REVERSE the tracks. Remove them with a sliding movement as de-
cribed above, then put it directly back on, but rotate it around by 180°. The
track may not be 100% symmetric seen from the middle. A small gap to
the side of the wheels must be maintained. Do the same with both of the
tracks.
●
If the tracks sit too loose and jump off easily, they may be damaged and
most likely need to be replaced.
