MANUAL BASS

This feature allows you to select one timbre for
the “bass region” left-hand 19 keys and a different
timbre for the rest of the keyboard. Firstly, select
the required timbre for the bass region. Next, press
the MANUAL BASS button (24). The display will
show “C-3”. Now select the required timbre for
the remaining keys. Play the keys to hear the two
separate sounds. Chords must be played manually
in this mode.

Press either the MANUAL BASS button (24) again
or the CHORD OFF button (23) to return to normal
keyboard operation. The display will show “OFF”.

TRANSPOSE

This function allows you to shift the overall key of
the keyboard in steps of one semitone. The range is
+/- 6 semitones. Press the TRA/- buttons
(6) to increase or decrease by one semitone as
required. The display will show the value range
from -06 to 06. Holding both TRA/-
buttons down simultaneously will return the MK-
4000 to normal pitch.

PERCUSSION KEYS

The MK-4000 has 8 percussion sounds, playable on
the dedicated percussion buttons (27), and also 61
keyboard key percussion sounds as indicated by
the symbols above the keys; accessed by pressing
the KEYBOARD PERCUSSION button (14). In this
mode the display will show “Per”. Pressing the
KEYBOARD PERCUSSION button again will revert
to normal keyboard operation. The display will
show “OFF”.

RHYTHM PROGRAMMING

The MK-4000 allows you to create custom
rhythms by programming percussion sounds.
Press the PROG button (11) and the keyboard is
automatically set to percussion mode. The display
will show “PRG”. Both the drum sounds from
the percussion buttons and percussion sounds
from the keyboard keys can be programmed
up to a maximum of 32 beats. Recording stops
automatically if 32 beats are reached, and the
display will show “FUL”.

When you have finished programming your rhythm,
press the PRO PLAY button (12) to play back your
rhythm in a loop. The display will show “PLY”. Use
the TEMPO +/- buttons (5) to increase or decrease
the rhythm speed as required. Press the PRO
PLAY button again to stop playback and clear the
programmed rhythm from the keyboard’s memory.

Please note: Recording programmed rhythms will
wipe any songs previously stored using the record
function.

RECORDING & PLAYBACK

To record your playing press the REC button (9)
to enable the recording function. The display will
show “rEC”. The metronome will play to assist with
timing and, if not required, can be turned off by
pressing the METRONOME button (22). Begin
playing to record your performance and press the
[REC] button again to stop recording. Performances
of up to 63 notes can be recorded. Recording
stops automatically if 63 notes are reached, and the
display shows “FUL”.

Press the PLAY button (10) to playback the
recorded melody. The display shows “PLY” and the
TEMPO +/- buttons (19) can be used to speed up
or slow down the performance as required. When
playback is finished, the display shows “1CH”. Press
the PLAY button to listen to the recording again or
press the REC button twice to clear the recording
from the keyboard’s memory. The display shows
“OFF”.

Please note: Recording songs will wipe any rhythms
previously stored using the rhythm programming
function.

ONE-KEY PLAY

This training feature is designed to help you
practice your timing, using the notes of the in-built
songs.

Press the ONE KEY button (17) to enable this
training function. The display will show the selected
demo song, e.g “d01”, and the system waits for you
to press any key on the keyboard to begin.

Press the +/- buttons on the number keypad (19)
to scroll through the different songs to be learnt or
enter a two-digit number (from 01 to 11) to directly
select a song.

As it is designed to aid timing, during this training
mode the melody of a song can be played by
pressing ANY single key in accordance with the
rhythm. Simply play a key in time with the music
and playback will continue.

After finishing the song, the system will wait for you
to press any key again to re-start the song or press
the ONE KEY button (17) again to exit this training
function.
