Monitoring SpO2
Masimo
The following settings control pulse oximetry monitoring for the Masimo
configuration option.
Option Function
SAT SECONDS Select the amount of time that SpO
2
saturation may be
outside the set limits before an alarm sounds.
„
OFF — Any alarm limit violation instantly alarms.
„
10 to 100 — Saturation seconds. Selectable in 5
saturation second intervals. The default setting is OFF .
The method of saturation seconds calculation is as follows:
The number of percentage points that the SpO
2
saturation
falls outside the alarm limit is multiplied by the number of
seconds that it remains outside the limit. This can be stated
as the equation “points x seconds = saturation seconds,”
where points equals SpO
2
percentage points at or outside
the limit, and seconds equals the number of seconds SpO
2
remains at that point outside the limit.
The upper and lower SpO
2
alarm limits are set in the same
way as traditional alarms.
NOTE
When Sat-Seconds is turned on, the signal strength
indicator is not displayed. In this event, check the
amplitude of the waveform to determine signal
strength. Be sure the
SIZE (waveform scale) setting is
1X .
RESPONSE Select the averaging time (speed of response) to changes in
a patient’s SpO
2
measurements.

Normal — Reports changes within four to six seconds
under motion-free conditions.
„
Fast — Reports changes in less than four seconds
under motion-free conditions.
