So long as the actu ator remai n s i n the Reset posi
tion, the breaker can be closed and opened normal l y
a t w i l l . H owever, w h e n a c l osed breaker receives a
trip s i g nal fro m the prog ram mer u n it, the act u ator i s
energ ized a n d i t s solenoid f l ux opposes t h e magn�t,
al lowing the spri n g to rel ease the armat u re; t h 1 s
d rives t h e trip rod agai n st the tri p s haft paddle, tripp
ing the b reaker.
As the breaker opens, the actu ator arm-is retu rned
to its normal (Reset) position via l i n kage d riven by a
cra n k o n the breaker's m a i n s h aft. The permanent
m ag net again holds the armat u re captive i n read i ness
for the next trip signal.

the breaker mechan ism to its Reset position. Loosen
the j am n ut, rotate the adj u ster end u n t i l the proper
g ap is attai ned, then ret i g hten the j a m b n ut to 35 ± 5
i n-lbs.
The actu ator i s a sealed, factory-set device and re
q u i res no mai ntenance or field adj ustment. I n case of
malfunction, the comp lete actuator unit should be
rep l aced . When maki ng the electrical con nector to
the rep l acement u n it, it is recom mended t hat the brea
ker h arness be cut at some conven ient point and the
new actuator leads solder-s p l iced together.
The preferred method is to remove the f l u x s h i fter
leads from the A M P con nector u s i n g the A M P extrac
tion tool , Cat. No. 3051 83 as fol lows:

1 . Remove the f l ux s h i fter leads from the h arness.
2.
Referring to the cabl i n g diagrams in Section 1 0.5,
the flux shifter leads are RED for point 8 and BLACK for
point E.
3. I nsert the extractor tool over the female p i n .
W h e n t h e extractor tool bottoms o u t , depress the
p l unger and force the wi re/socket assembly out of the
connector.
4. No tool is req u i red to i n sert the wi re/socket
assem bly i nto the connector. I n sert the assembly un
til i t snaps i nto pl ace.
5. Verify a l l sockets are i nserted to the same depth.
