Storage Bays 63

After installation, initialize the drives in the RAID Cage following the
instructions that came with your SCSI controller. Be sure to follow the
SCSI controller instructions on how to operate the RAID system, especially
about how to properly hot-swap a hard disk drive, to prevent inadvertent
corruption of your data.

Replacing (Hot-Swapping) a Drive.

If one of the drives fails and you are running a RAID level that supports
hot-swapping, you can replace the failed drive without powering down the
system.

1.

Remove the replacement drive from its shipping carton and inspect it
carefully.

2.

Open the RAID Bay door on the front of the system.

3.

Record the SCSI ID number of the drive you are replacing.

4.

Select the matching SCSI ID Number Label (provided with the new
drive) and affix it to the front of the new device.

5.

If replacing the failed drive while the system is running, place the
failed drive off-line first This may be accomplished automatically if
your system is set up for enhanced RAID level 5 operation. Otherwise,
you must run the software.

6.

Remove the failed drive by swinging the locking tabs outward and
sliding the drive toward you.

7.

Align the new drive with the rail guides and gently push the drive into
place.

8.

Swing the locking tabs inward to secure the drive in its bay.

9.

Close and lock the RAID Bay door.

electricity may damage the

Note:

The ID for the
replacement drive is set
automatically when the
drive is installed in the
slot of the failed drive.
