drive bay. Refer to Table 6 for specific jumper settings. SCSI ID’s are
assigned from each drive’s position in the RAID bay (from lowest to
highest).

Active Termination

Every SCSI subsystem must be terminated at both ends for proper
operation. Refer to the documentation supplied with your controller for
instructions on how to properly terminate your controller. Terminate the
other end of the SCSI subsystem by setting JP6 (“G” in Figure 48), and/or
JP3 (“D” in Figure 48) on the RAID Cage backplane. These jumpers
provide active termination on the SCSI bus. JP6 provides termination power
for the 8-bit, 50-pin connector at the top to the RAID cage and JP3 provides
active termination for the 16-bit, 68-pin Ultra2 Wide SCSI connector.
Active termination is enabled by removing the jumper from JP6 (Standard
SCSI) or JP3 (Ultra Wide SCSI).

Termination power is provided by JP10 (“I” in Figure 48). To enable
termination power, jumper pins 1 and 2 of JP10. To disable termination
power, jumper pins 2 and 3 of JP10.

Auto Start/Delay Start

If there are a large number of drives in the system, starting all of the drives
simultaneously can cause a power surge. To prevent this, set jumper JP2
(“C” in Figure 48) to delay the start of the drives, by placing a jumper on
pins 1 and 2. The delay start option usually waits for a number of seconds
multiplied by the SCSI ID of the drive before starting the drive.

If you intend to boot the
server from a SCSI drive,
that drive must be set to
ID0 on channel 0. If you
attempt to place the SCSI
boot drive at any other
position, the server will not
boot properly and may
damage the data on the
boot drive.
