Replacing and Adding Internal Devices
Adding memory
The DRAM DIMMs supported by the server board conform to the following
standards:
■
64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, and 512 MB ECC DIMMs
■
PC/100-compliant, unbuffered, ECC SDRAM
■
64 MB minimum system memory
■
2.0 GB maximum system memory
When you select and install DIMMs, keep the following in mind:
■
Registered DIMMs should not be combined with unbuffered DIMMs
■
Memory should be added in order, from DIMM 1 to DIMM 4.
■
There can be no empty slots between installed DIMMs.
■
No jumper settings are required for the memory size or type because the
BIOS automatically detects this information.
To add DIMMs:
1
Turn off the system and disconnect the power cord and all other external
peripheral devices.
2
Open the case. (See “Opening the case” on page 23 and “Preventing static
electricity discharge” on page 22.)
3
Pull open the socket clamps on each side of the DIMM socket.
4
Insert the new DIMM into the socket and align the two notches in the
DIMM with the two notches in the DIMM socket.
