DRAINING AND CLEANING OIL SYSTEM
- Always drain the complete system. Draining when the oil is
hot will help to prevent varnish deposits and carry away impurities. To drain the system, use one of the
following methods:
1.
Be sure the unit is completely off and that no air pressure is in the oil reservoir.
2.
Disconnect lockout and tagout the power supply to the compressor package.
3.
If the unit is not elevated high enough to use the oil reservoir drain line to drain oil, a small hand,
electric or air operated pump should be used to drain reservoir through the oil filler opening or from
the drain valve.
4.
If the unit is elevated so that the oil reservoir drain can be used, empty the oil reservoir through the
drain valve to a suitable container or sump.
5.
When the air-cooled module is used, make sure to drain the interconnecting oil pipes between the
compressor package and the air-cooled module. Depending on the oil pipe layout, the oil drain
(lowest) point may be the oil pipes or the oil cooler tank.
6.
If the drained oil and/or the oil filter element are contaminated with dirt, flush the entire system,
reservoir, oil cooler, mixing valve and lines. Inspect the oil separator element for dirt accumulation;
replace if necessary. If a varnish deposit exists, contact the factory for recommendations for
removal of the deposit and prevention of varnish.
REFILLING OIL SYSTEM
- The steps to refill the drained oil system are the same as those already
presented for the addition of oil between changes
– see page 48, for full details. The only exception is
that to fill all the empty lines and components (e.g., oil cooler, compressors, and oil filter) a much larger
volume of oil will be required.
The VST225-260A package [water Cooled variant] requires 35 gal. of AEON 9000TH Synthetic
Lubricating Coolant (oil) to fill all the lines and components. The provided sight glass has a working
height of 4
”, which represent a change of 7.7 gallons between its bottom edge (refill level) to its upper
edge (max fill level). The air-cooled package variant will require additional oil to fill the interconnecting oil
pipes between the air-cooled module and the compressor package
– the extra volume required when
using 2in diameter x 50 ft long pipes is approximately 9 gal.
