3. Seat the valve cover completely against
the shoulder of the fluid cylinder by
inserting the “Hex Retainer Tool”
through the retainer until it contacts the
valve cover and tapping the tool over
the hex with a hammer while applying
moderate hand pressure as shown.
Continue until the retainer stops turning.
4. Mark the position of the retainer relative
to the fluid cylinder a felt tip pen or paint
stick as shown.
5. Tighten the cover retainer by striking
the handle of the “Hex Retainer Tool”
with a hammer, as shown, until the
retainer
has moved the distance
specified in the table.

Removal:
Jackbolts must be unloaded gradually. If
some jackbolts are unloaded prematurely,
the remaining jackbolts will carry the entire
load, making them difficult to unload. Power
driven
or
impact
wrenches are not
permitted.
1. To unload the multi-jackbolt fasteners,
begin by relaxing alternate jackbolts
only a 1/8 of a turn each.
2. In a second round, while following the
same pattern, turn each bolt only ¼ of a
turn.
3. Continue making rounds turning each
jackbolt ¼ turn until they are all
relaxed. The fasteners may now be
removed by hand.
NOTE: Should a jackbolt become too tight
to turn, it may be helped by just “slightly
tightening” the adjacent jackbolts. This
“shares” the load reducing the compression
on each jackbolt.
