Auto Tuning the TDC4
This section briefly describes using the TDC4’s auto tune feature to automatically set the PID tuning
parameters. A special Gamry Framework script, named “TDC4 Start Auto Tune. exp”, is used to initiate
the auto tune process. Once the auto tune process is started, it runs independently in the TDC4, not
under the control of this script.
Note
While auto tune initiation could be done using the 4-button interface on the
TDC4 front panel, starting the process in this manner is far too complicated to
be described in this manual.
Use this procedure to auto tune the controller:
1)
Start the Gamry Framework software.
2)
The system should be tuned using the same cell that will be used for real experiments.
You should try to duplicate your experimental conditions as closely as possible.
3)
The script that starts the auto tune process is called “
TDC4 Start Auto Tune.exp”
. Run it
by selecting
Experiment, Named Script…,
TDC4 Start Auto Tune.exp
from the
Framework menu.
4)
When this script runs, it opens a runner window and displays a dialog box similar to that
in Figure 3-3.

When you select Ok, the script will send data to the TDC4 that will start the auto tune
process built into the TDC4.
6)
At the end of the transfer process the TDC4 display starts displaying a blinking message
AtUN on its front panel display.
