The overflow bottle, located inside the right panel door at the front of the
COBE 2991 (Figure 8-1), should be checked periodically. The presence of
hydraulic fluid in the overflow bottle indicates a leak in the flexible
diaphragm. Contact a qualified service representative to have the leak repaired.
If cell product is present in the overflow bottle, see “Disinfecting As Needed”
on page 8-4.
To remove the overflow bottle for draining and cleaning:
a Open the right panel door.
b Remove the overflow tubing from the bottle. Be prepared to clean up any
fluid that may drip from the overflow tubing. See “Disinfecting As
Needed” on page 8-4.
c Slightly lift up the overflow bottle bracket so that the slot clears the
mounting screw.
d Tilt the overflow bottle bracket out so the bottle can be removed.
e Carefully lift the overflow bottle out of the bracket.
Reinstall the overflow bottle after cleaning or disinfecting.

If the
centrifuge bowl or
overflow bottle contains
cell product or
processing/wash solutions
that have spilled, treat this
material as a potential
biological hazard. Discard
the contents according to
your institution’s standard
operating procedures for
biological hazards. Clean
the bottle with an
appropriate cleaning
solution and place it back
in position, with the
overflow tubing inside the
bottle.
