10. Working methods to reduce the risk of injury
10.1 Tree care at height with rope and riser
10.1.1 General requirements
As a user of this chainsaw for tree care, the one at height with rope and
carrying strap, you should never work alone. A ground worker trained in
emergency procedures should be present to assist you.
They should be trained in general, safe climbing and work positioning
techniques and should be equipped with harness, rope, slings, karabiners and
other device to maintain safe and correct working positions for both
themselves and the saw.
10.1.2 Preparing the chainsaw for use
The chainsaw should be inspected, refuelled, started and warmed up by the
ground worker and then switched off before being pulled up to the user in the
tree.
The chainsaw should be provided with a suitable sling so that it can be
attached to the user's harness ( see picture A.1 ):
a) the sling is attached to the secure the suspension device (18);
b) suitable karabiners must be provided to allow indirect (i.e. through the
sling) and direct (i.e. on the suspension device (18) of the chainsaw) to
allow the saw to be attached to the user's harness;
c) Ensure that the chainsaw is securely fastened when it is pulled up to
the user;
d) make sure that the chainsaw is attached to the carrying strap before
disconnecting it from the lifting rope.
