Installing the Unit to a Server
This chapter explains how to install the unit to a server.
Install the unit in accordance with the following procedures.

Check the setting environment.

Set jumpers.

Install the unit to the server and connect SCSI cable and power
cable.
For details, refer to the "User's Guide" in "Document & Tool CD" provided with the server.
For installation, make sure to use the screws and washers provided with this product.

Install the required backup software and driver.

Checking the Installation Environment
For details about the server installation environment, refer to "Safety Precautions" and "Start Guide".
This product is susceptible to its installation environment (especially dust) because the data recording
surface is exposed inside the device. The closer to the floor, the higher the dust level is in general, so
it is recommended to install this product away from the floor, such as on a desk.
Install this product in less dusty environments, referring to the "Example of installation places to
avoid".

• On the floor.
• High-traffic areas
• Areas close to open door/window, especially, where affected by outside environment, such as
sandy dust, car exhaust emission, etc.
• Areas close to air ventilating duct (attention to air conditioner, exhaust fan, etc.)
• Areas where affected by cigarette smoke (No smoking in the room where this product is installed)
• Areas close to a printer and affected by the toner
• Areas close to a paper-handling device, such as copy machine, shredder, or fax machine, and
affected by paper particles.
• Reconsider the installation place if dust accumulates at the tape slot and around the product in a
few months after installation.
