Spare Channel Mode
I
This mode is only supported by Intel processors of type Intel
®
Xeon
®
processors of the 5600 series.
In this mode, channel C forms a replacement for the two channels A and B.
Channel C is not available as regular main memory. The channels are
populated in the same way as in Performance Channel Mode.
●
All three channels must be populated identically as regards the size and
organization of the memory modules.
●
The slots within a channel do not have to be populated identically, but the
corresponding slots of all three channels must be populated identically.
●
Memory modules with different clock frequencies and different speed ratings
can be used within a channel, whereby the settings of the slowest memory
module are used for the channel.
●
The timings in the active channels (A and B) and in the spare channel (C)
can be set differently.
●
Only 2/3 of the maximum memory bandwidth is available in Spare Channel
Mode.
●
In Spare Channel Mode, the total main memory available in the system is
2/3 the size of the installed memory.
