CONNECTION to TRACTOR
The forestry tong is to stand in its normal position, i.e.: lowered onto a flat, solid surface,
resting upon the tong and the support leg. When this is ensured, connection is accomplished
as follows:
1. Drive carefully towards the forestry tong, so that the lift arms slide in between the
flanges.
Make sure that the lift arms enter at the same level - this eases
insertion of the towing pins. Remember the cotter pin to secure the towing pins with.
2. Mount the top link.
3. Lift the forestry tong, but exercise caution; sudden lateral movement may easily occur,
as there is no oil in the hydraulic system. Adjust the tractors lift arms’ side limiters so that
the forestry tong is centered and locked into the middle.
4. Lift the support leg up to its top position and lock it into place.
5. Make sure that the hydraulic levers in the tractor are in neutral position.
6. Connect the hydraulic hoses to the hydraulic outlets on the tractor.
Swivel cylinder: connect to a double-acting outlet with free position.
Grab cylinder:
connect to a double-acting outlet.
7. Fill the swivel cylinder with oil by way of the hydraulic levers first. During this procedure,
there should be ample room around the forestry tong, as it may, as previously
mentioned, react unpredictably due to air in the system. Run backwards and forwards a
few times so that all the air is removed from the system.
8. Now repeat the same procedure for the cylinder that closes around the trunks.
9. Measure the length of the hydraulic hoses; they should neither be too long or too short.
Pay particular attention to the danger of projections or other elements of the tractor’s lift
construction fouling the hydraulic hoses and if necessary tie the hoses down.
DETACHMENT from TRACTOR
1. Lower the support leg to its parking position, and lock it with the cotter pin.
2. Open the grapple tongs wide and lower the forestry tong onto a flat, stable surface. Adjust
the length of the top link so it is not tight when lowered.
3. De-activate the hydraulic control valve, and take off the hydraulic hoses.
4. Remove the top link and lift arms
5. Drive the tractor carefully away from the implement.
