Cryptomania Tips
• Decode short words first. They’re
easier. For example, a group of
three letters such as
XFR is likely to
decode as
and, the, his, etc.
• Look for coded words that occur
more than once. Solve them and
you may remember the quotation.
• Look for patterns of coded letters,
such as double letters, that may
represent common combinations
such as
ll, oo, etc.
• At the beginner and intermediate skill
levels, use the punctuation as clues.
