EMISSIVITY-INTENSITY OF RADIATION AND MEASUREMENT ACCURACY
y
Emissivity expresses the ability of a mate-
rial to emit infrared radiation. A majority
of organic materials and laminated or
oxidised surfaces have an emissivity value
of approximately 0.95. Measuring the
temperature of materials with a different
emissivity value than 0.95 leads to inaccu-
rate measurement results.
If you wish to increase measurement accuracy,
set the device‘s emissivity value for the measured
material according to table 3 provided below.
During measurement, we recommend recording
the set emissivity value for the given material to
enable measurement results to be compared rela-
tive to the set emissivity for the given material.

- The aiming laser can be deactivated if necessary, and thanks
to its circular projection, based on the distance of the device
from the measured surface, enables the collection of infor-
mation about the diameter of the measured surface, which
is important for the measured temperature result not to be
skewed by another background temperature relative to the
12:1 optical resolution of the device, which would result in
measurement inaccuracies. The significance of the device's
optical resolution is described below.
- Intuitive colour display makes measurement and orientati-
on on the display very clear.
The manually activated UV light source can
be used to detect, for example, liquids from
pipes containing compounds (substances)
visible under UV light, or other substances
and materials visible under UV light.
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE DISTANCE OF THE DEVICE,
THE DIAMETER OF THE MEASURED AREA AND MEASUREMENT ACCURACY
y
The diameter of the measured area is given by the optical resolution of the device 12:1, which in practi-
ce means that the device at a distance of, for example, 300 mm from the measured area measures the
temperature of an area with a diameter of 25 mm. This fact has a fundamental effect on the tempera-
ture measurement accuracy of the object when the size of the area of the measured object is small and
the device is at a greater distance from the object than it should be with respect to the device‘s optical
resolution of 12:1. In such a case, the non-contact thermometer measures also the background outside
the measured object, which leads to measurement inaccuracies. To achieve measurement accuracy, it
is necessary to take into consideration the size of the area of the measured object and the distance of
the thermometer from the object with respect to the device‘s resolution of 12:1.
