PINPOINT TEST S: THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

S1 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SERVICE ENGINE
SOON INDICATOR ACTIVE COMMAND
• Connect the scan tool.
Yes
• Key in ON position. REFER to the Powertrain
• Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Instrument Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED)
Cluster Active Command. manual .
• Trigger the instrument cluster active command MIL.
No
• Did the SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator illuminate?
GO to S2 .
S2 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
• Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
Yes
• Check for: INSTALL a new instrument cluster.
REFER to Instrument Cluster in this
• corrosion
section. TEST the system for normal
• pushed-out pins
operation.
• Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure
they seat correctly.
No
• Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. The system is operating correctly at this

by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR
the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

T1 CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD LAMPS OPERATION
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when
making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe
adapter(s) may damage the connector.
Yes
• Key in ON position.
GO to T2 .
• Operate the left and right turn signals.
• Operate the hazard lamps.
No
• Do the turn signals and hazard lamps operate correctly? REFER to Section 417-01.
T2 CHECK THE CIRCUIT IN QUESTION — CIRCUIT 2 (WH/LB) (RH)
OR CIRCUIT 3 (LG/WH) (LH)
• Key in OFF position.
• Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a (RH) or C220b (LH).
• Key in ON position.
