Illustration No. 8 shows two common grinding errors.
Excessive hook on the cutters will tend to make the
chain grab and require excessive power to drive it. If
you are getting too much hook, check radius of wheel
with radius gauge as too small a radius will cause ex-
cess hook. Another possible cause of excess hook is
grinding too deep.
If there is blackslope on the teeth the chain will not
feed properly and will require excessive down pressure
to make it cut. This causes undue wear on chain and
chain bar. If there is backslope on the teeth, check
radius of wheel with radius gauge, as too large a radius
will cause backslope. Another possible cause of back-
slope is not grinding deep enough.
