5.1.2 Discription of the engine plant
Most rescue boats are equipped with outboard engines from various brands.
In this case please refer to the delivered outboard engine manual.
Warning:
Quick shifting from full ahead to full astern may damage
transmission, circuits or engine. To avoid this, let the engine
idle for about 5 seconds before shifting.
Rescue boats with inboard diesel:
A water-cooled diesel engine with reverse gear and propeller shafting is
mounted. The keel - pipe cooling is situated in engine room area outside
along the keel. It is filled with anti- freeze fluid for at least -35°C. The engine
is flexible mounted on rubber bearings. The s/s shaft runs in a water
lubricated rubber bearing. The exhaust gas system is a dry system without
water injection. The exhaust is let through a silencer to outside.
Warning:
Exhaust temperatures can exceed 500°C. Do not touch any
components of the hot exhaust system.
Caution:
Wet insulation will cause terrible fumes whilst the engine is
running
