Setting Drag
Setting drag is a procedure used to reduce
1.
line breakage when the line is under stress.
When the pull on the line gets to a certain
point, determined by the tightened drag set-
ting, the spool will turn clockwise allowing
line to go out rather than break. Prepare
the line by opening the Bail and pulling the
fishing line through the line guides and out
the tip of the fishing rod, then close the bail
again. Tie the fishing line to a stationary point
in front of you.
With the rod at an angle of about 45 degrees,
2.
apply pressure to the line by pulling back on
the rod thereby tightening the line.

either the “Less” (counterclockwise-when
facing knob) or “More” (clockwise) drag set-
ting. (See Figure 1.) The point at which the
spool starts to turn, while letting line out, is
the point where the drag has been set. Adjust
as necessary.
The drag setting necessary will be deter-

mined by the line used. The lighter the line,
the less drag should be set. Generally, you
would want the drag to start letting the line
out just before the fishing line breaks.
The Line Clip
The Line Clip is a small triangular shaped
piece of plastic that is located on the rim of
the Spool Assembly (6) just below the actual
spool. Use the Line Clip to hold the line firmly
when the Bail is open. It will retain the end of
the line when the Fishing Reel is not in use,
preventing the line from unraveling off of the
spool. (See assembly diagram page 6.)
Casting
Grasp the rod with your rod hand. Capture
1.
the fishing line between your forefinger and
the rod and open the bail.
With the bail open, swing the rod back behind

your shoulder and then back out again in a
smooth arc, releasing the line when the rod
and your casting arm are extended forward.
When bait or lure hits the water, turn handle,
or manually flip the Bail Arm closed.
effective and accurate casting is a matter

of technique and timing, requiring practice.
Become familiar with casting procedures
by practicing in your yard or on location.
When practicing in a yard, do not use sharp
hooks.
Cast safely and efficiently; use eye protection

to protect your eyes from sharp hooks during
casting procedures.
Anti-Reverse Cam
The Fishing Reel comes with an Anti-Reverse
function which prevents the Spool Assembly
(6) from rotating backward when the line is
being pulled out against the drag clutch. To
activate or deactivate this feature, toggle the
Anti-Reverse Lever (43).
