3. POWER CONNECTOR
Before connecting the machine check the tension,
number of phases and the power supply
frequency.
The admissible power supply is indicated in the
information plate on the machine. Check that the
earth of the welder has been connected correctly.
Furthermore, make sure that the plug provided
with the equipment is compatible with the local grid
sockets. Make sure that the power supply provides
sufficient power for the machine to function
(tension ranges).
The machine is provided with a specific power
cable that does not usually require an extension
lead; in the event an extension lead is required,
use one of the same capacity or higher than the
machine in use, according to the length of the
cable.
A 2.5 mm² three-pole cable + earth, of the same
size or larger.
47K
GEN
machine is specifically designed to be
connected to a generator.
4. OUTPUT CONNECTIONS
Connect the earth clamp to the workpiece
securely. Check the workpiece itself is also
earthed. The unit is now ready for use.
5. PLASMA CUTTING DESCRIPTION
The plasma cutting process is based on high
temperatures being generated by inert gas blown
out of a compressor, some of which is turned to
plasma.
To turn the gas to plasma, an electrical arc is
generated and held costant by the electronically-
controlled cutting current provided by the unit.
The current is supplied by the unit as soon as the
torch trigger is pressed.
At first the current is used to generate a pilot arc.
In this way the air is held in a plasma state even
when the torch is not in the vicinity of the
workpiece (the arc is generated inside the torch).
As soon as the torch makes contact with the
workpiece the arc is automatically diverted to the
workpiece and cutting begins. The cutting current
can be set using Knob 1 (Fig.1) within a range
between 5 to 27A. (TP47 gen: 5A min-40A max).
While cutting the current is held constantly at the
set value. If cutting does not start within 5 seconds
of the arc being generated, the arc itself will
automatically cut out. To regenerate the arc, the
torch trigger must be released then pressed again.
Always keep the torch in direct contact with the
workpiece and maintain a vertical torch angle.
Cutting stops when the torch trigger is released.
Air continues to flow for app. 20 seconds to cool
the torch down. The current is extremely important
for the quality of the cut.
It should, therefore, be set carefully. Several factors
influence the selection of the optimum current value;
for instance the type of material, the thickness of the
workpiece and the cutting speed. Thicker
workpieces and higher speeds require more current.
The following guidelines show reference current
values but the skill of the user should have
precedence. To achieve the best results an
experienced user will select the cutting current and
speed according to the type of material and the
shape of the workpiece.
Thicker workpieces can be cut slowly.
1) NOTE:
a)
maximum thickness of cutting on steel:
TP 35K:
8 mm
TP 47K:
10 mm
b)
maximum thickness of separation on steel:
TP 35K:
10 mm
TP 47K:
12 mm
2) NOTE:
Above mentioned values have to be taken into
consideration with standard cables supplied by the
manufacturer along with the machine.
If you are going to employ longer cables, please
use bigger cables section, considering the length
and the power absorbed by plasma cutter.
