8. Lift the motherboard out of the chassis at a 45-degree angle and set it on a flat, antistatic
surface.
As you remove it, be careful to avoid stressing the motherboard or the surrounding cables in
the chassis.
9. If you are replacing the motherboard with a new motherboard, proceed to “To prepare a
replacement motherboard” on page 31.

O PREPARE A REPLACEMENT MOTHERBOARD
When you handle electronic components, you must follow standard electrostatic discharge
(ESD) precautions. For more information, see
“Standard electrostatic discharge precautions”
on page 11.
• Perform the following tasks on the old motherboard:
• Transfer the following components to the new motherboard: CPU, CPU cooling assembly
(see page 40 ), DIMM (see page 38 ), and security chip (see page 32 ).
Do not transfer the BIOS chip from the old motherboard onto the new motherboard.
Doing so can cause the system to shut down due to incompatibility issues.
• Remove the battery from the new motherboard (see page 34 .) Set aside the battery so
that you can reinstall it after a minimum of two minutes.
• Wait a minimum of two minutes, and then reinstall the battery.
