3. Grab the strap and pull firmly from the drum.
Releasing the Fabric Strap
Releasing the fabric strap: This should be done to ensure that the stability of the load is not
dependent on the tie down equipment and that releasing the fabric strap will not cause the
load to fall from the vehicle, endangering personnel. If necessary, attach the lifting gear to
the load for transport before releasing the tightening ratchet to avoid a situation where the
load could accidentally fall and/or tilt.
5 MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Periodic Inspections
The strap must be inspected at regular intervals (every 3 months) by a capable person. The
rejection criteria are:
Label missing and/or damaged;
Illegible markings;
Parts of the belt are visibly damaged, worn or cut due to stress or exposure to heat.
Deformation, cracking, pronounced signs of wear or corrosion on hooks and tightening
mechanism.
Damaged straps must no longer be used. Never try to repair the straps!
When not in use, the straps should be stored under clean, dry and well ventilated conditions,
and at room temperature on a shelf, away from heat, contact with chemicals, fumes,
corrosive surfaces, direct sunlight or other sources of ultraviolet radiation.
Before storing, the straps should be inspected for any damage that has occurred during use.
The straps should never be stored damaged.
If the tie down straps come in contact with acids and/or alkalis, they should no longer be
used.
The slings that get wet during use, or as a result of cleaning, should be hung and left to dry
naturally.
