Using the Cot

5 - USING the Cot

5.1  before Placing the Cot in Service

Personnel who will work with the cot need to read this 

● 

manual and be trained in the cot's use.
Attach the restraints to the cot (see the restraint users' 

● 

manual and page 10 of this manual). 

Confirm that the cot operates properly. See 

● 

Inspecting 

the Cot

Install  a  cot  fastener  in  the  vehicle  that  will  be 

● 

transporting the cot. The cot is designed for use with 

the Ferno

®

 Model 579 Fastener (not included).

5.2  General Guidelines for Use

Maintain control of the cot at all times.

● 

It  is  the  cot  operator's  responsibility  to  ensure  safe 

● 

handling practices for the body and the cot.
The cot is for professional use by one or more trained 

● 

operators.
Follow  standard  mortuary-services  procedures  for 

● 

body handling when using the cot.
Always use restraints to secure the body on the cot.

● 

Lift  only  the  weight  you  can  safely  handle.  Use 

● 

additional  help  when  working  with  heavy  loads  or 

raising  the  loaded  cot  from  the  folded  position  (see

5.3  Folding the empty Cot

If you need to retrieve a body from the floor or ground, you 

can fold the empty cot. (You will need a helper when raising 

the cot after it is loaded. See 

Raising the Cot with a Body on

, page 12). To lower the empty cot:

Place the cot beside the body.

Disengage the safety lock.

Tip the cot onto its loading wheels and front transport
