1.4.3 Tightening torque for screws with a galvanized surface
Choose the correct friction coefficient
To ensure that the tightening torque and preload value can be accurately determined, it is essential to know
the
friction coefficient µ
. Varying surface properties and lubrication conditions give rise to a wide range of
friction coefficients. If not otherwise specified, tightening torques can be calculated based on their friction
coefficient using the table below.
NOTE:
Locking screws with retaining ridges on the screw head contact surface have a greater friction coefficient.
