5.1 Regulatory agencies in the EU countries and the USA
Design and transmitting power of the antenna is mainly controlled by the country-specific radio
regulations. For all the EU countries this means uniform limits according to EN 300 330. In North
America this is regulated by FCC Part 15.
The key limit value for antennas, which is the maximum permissible magnetic field strength at
13.56 MHz and a distance of 10 m, is 42 dB
µ
A/m for the EU and USA.
When placing the antenna in operation, be sure that the permissible limits of the national radio
regulations are not exceeded. The ID ISC.ANT340/240 used with the ID ISC.MR101 Reader meets
the requirements of the above named regulations.
5.2 Effect of metal on the range
Metal and other conducting materials cannot be penetrated by a magnetic field. The curvature of
the lines and the inductivity of the antenna is however changed, which in turn has a great effect on
the range. Moreover the field is weakened by counter-inductivity and eddy currents in the metal.
Diagram 1 shows the relationship between the range and distance between metal and antenna. In
creating these curves a label (45 x 76 mm
2
, label sensitivity Hmin=75 mA/m rms) is brought over
the center of the antenna in a parallel direction.
