GEARCASE SERVICE, 40 – 65 HP MODELS

GEARCASE ASSEMBLY

Use Driveshaft Holding Socket, P/N 334995, and

an 11/16 in. open-end wrench, to tighten the pin-

ion nut to a torque of 40 to 45 ft. lbs. (54 to 60s

N·m). Pad handle of the wrench to prevent dam-

age to gearcase.

Propeller Shaft Bearing
Housing and Gear Installation

Place the small thrust washe r in recess of the

reverse gear.

Oil and inst all thrust bear ing a nd la rger thru st

washer on hu b of reverse gear. Slide the gear

assembly onto the propeller shaft until it engages

the pinion gear.

Slide the bearing housing ret ainer plate into posi-

tion over the propeller shaft.

Using Ret aining Ring Pliers, P/N 331045, inst all

the two retaining rings.
