6• PREPARATION AND GETTING STARTED

SPECIFICATIONS

The electric mower operates on 230 V ~ 50 Hz single phase AC power.
It has a brake asynchronous electric motor which will give trouble-

free operation for many years as long as you follow a few simple

precautions.
It is completely isolated and does not need to be earthed.

PRECAUTIONS

MOTOR OPERATED AT TOO LOW A VOLTAGE

The motor must be powered with 230 V AC. If the voltage is 10%

too low for instance, the power produced by the motor will drop

by 20%. The motor will then not operate correctly and will heat up

excessively.

Always use an extension cable that meets the minimum

legal specifications. Do not use an extension longer than

50m.

OVERLOADED MOTOR

If the load put on the mower is too high, from very thick or wet grass

for instance, the motor will slow down and will heat up excessively.

Therefore after a short period of intense work it is essential to give

the mower time to recover at normal speed to stop it getting too hot

and damaging the motor windings.

Use a higher cutting height if the mower is overloaded.

ABNORMAL OPERATION

You should always avoid using the mower if the motor is not

operating normally and look for the reason.

MAINTENANCE

Before starting work disconnect the power cable.

Asynchronous electric motors are maintenance free. However

excessive heating and moisture should be avoided.
Therefore take care to:
- clean the mower regularly particularly by removing any grass which

has got in around the motor housing.

- avoid cleaning the mower with a pressure washer.

- store the mower in a dry and well ventilated place.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

CABLE

- Use a 2 or 3 wire flexible cable of minimum section 1 mm

2

 with

minimum insulation quality to H05-RN-F or H05-VV-F standards.

An extension lead of lower sectional area could cause a

voltage drop. The motor will heat up and could cause severe

problems.

- The socket on the extension cable must not be thinner than the one

stipulated for the mower and must be waterproof.

- Use an extension lead of the correct length for the area being cut.

Do not use several extension leads in series.

We recommend that you use an Etesia moulded flexible extension

cable available in 25 m and 50 m lengths (Ref. VV25E and VV50E)

(see picture 1).

ETESIA will not be liable if any other type of extension cable is used

which does not meet the minimum specifications.

Check the condition of the flexible power cable at regular

intervals.

Never use an extension lead that shows signs of ageing or damage.

Recommendation:

To connect the mower, use a power circuit

protected with a residual current device (RCD) with a shut off

leakage current of 30 mA or less.

EXTENSION CABLE

- Fully unspool the cable and lay it out in loops on the ground.

- Before connecting the extension lead, inspect its entire length and

check the insulation is not damaged by cuts, crazing and so on.

CAUTION!

Never connect a damaged cable to the power supply.

In the same way, during mowing keep the extension lead away from

the cutter blade. The cutter can damage the cable. A damaged cable

can lead to contact with parts that have become live and cause an

electric shock.
- Secure the electric cable to the handle bar cable guider (see

picture 2) with a snap hook (cables VV25E and VV50E) or with a

disconnect ring.

- Connect the extension lead to the mower power socket and then to

the power supply socket.

- After use first disconnect the extension lead from the power socket

and then from the mower. Then spool it up and store it away

immediately.

CAUTION!

If the cable is damaged during use, do not touch it

and do not touch the mower. Move away from the danger zone and

immediately disconnect the extension lead from the wall socket. A

damaged cable must only be repaired by a specialist.

AUTOMATIC CABLE GUIDE

Each time there is a change in direction the cable guider

automatically slides over from the previously cut side (see picture 3).
A very simple manoeuvre which reduces the risk of cutting the cable.

In addition by eliminating tension on the socket the cable guider

extends the life of the cable.
Since this happens automatically, the device adds convenience to

safety.

THE HANDLEBAR

• Unfold the handlebar, ensuring the remote control cables are

correctly positioned (see picture 4).

• Tighten the 2 wing-nuts of the intermediate handlebar fastening

(see picture 5).

• Position the handlebar at the required height according to how tall

you are (choice of 3 positions). Insert the positioning lug in the

corresponding hole in the handlebar mounting (see a picture 6) then

screw in and tighten the nut (see b picture 6). Important: make sure

you fasten both lower parts at the same height.

Keep your fingers away from the joints to avoid injury.

There must no be any play in the handlebar

attachement.

• Secure the power cable to the cable guider (see picture 2).

• Connect the power cable to a power socket protected with a residual

current device with a leakage current of less than 30 mA.
