NOTE
“Note” refers to information regarding the installation, operation or
maintenance, which are important but do not generate hazards.
Most Warning and Caution messages are located in the following chapters
“Instructions for Safe Use” and in “Installation”. Other Warnings and
Cautions are located with the associated procedural steps throughout the
relevant chapters.
The User must carefully read, understand, and observe all Warnings and
Cautions throughout the entire manual.
The term “Service”, when used in the O-scan manual, always refers to the
service personnel authorized by Esaote S.p.A..
Special Terms
The purpose of this section is to provide a list of “special terms” frequently
used in the manual, although each of them has already been defined in
the part of the manual where the concept and/or the function associated
to it is described in detail.
ABNORMAL USE - Intentional acts or omissions by the head of the
organization or the operator as the result of behavior that goes beyond
any reasonable control of risks as specified by the manufacturer.
ARTIFACTS - False features in the image produced by the imaging process
and that do not correspond to the spatial distribution of tissues in the
slice.
B1 RMS - Root mean square (RMS) of B

: the radio frequency magnetic
induction. It is an indication of the RF magnetic field intensity.
BANDWIDTH - Range of frequencies to which the receiver is sensitive.
COIL - Single or multiple loops (or other electrical conductor, such as
tubing) of wire designed either to produce a magnetic field from current
flowing through the wire, or to detect a changing magnetic field by voltage
induced in the wire.
CONTRAST - The relative difference in signal intensity between two types
of tissues. Essential criterion used to differentiate pathological and
healthy tissues.
CONTROLLED ACCESS AREA - Area around the system, outside which the
magnetic fringe field must not exceed 0.5 mT and the level of
electromagnetic interference complies with Standard EN 60601-1-2 and
subsequent amendments. Outside the controlled access area, the level of
exposure to the static magnetic field is considered safe for persons.
dB/dt - Rate of time variation of magnetic field.
ECG - Electrocardiograph.
