security of the Tool Shackle crossbar before each use and periodically during use.
A Tool Shackle exhibiting deformities, worn threads or any corrosion should be

products.
• Never modify or alter your Tool Shackles.
• Never modify a tool that deviates from manufacturer guidelines.
• Do not use this product if it interferes with the tool’s safe working condition.
• Use extra precaution around moving machinery or parts, electrical hazards, chemical
hazards or other apparent hazards.

REQUIRED ITEMS FOR ATTACHING TOOL SHACKLES
• Appropriate Tool Shackles (see product table)
• Pair of pliers
• Thread adhesive
1. a. Weigh your tool to ensure it doesn’t exceed the shackle’s capacity.
b. Measure the tool diameter to determine proper size—
the Tool Shackle size must be wider than the area on the tool being connected, yet
smaller than both ends of the tool to create a barrier that prevents the Tool Shackle
from sliding off.
c. Use the product table below to determine the proper size tool shackle to use on
your tool.
2. Connect the Tool Shackle to the tool. Unscrew and remove the crossbar [fig. 1].
3. Slide the U-shackle through a closed connection or around the tool’s shaft [fig. 2].
4. Apply thread adhesive to the crossbar threads [Fig 3].
5. Reattach the crossbar [fig. 4].
6. Use a pliers to firmly tighten the crossbar [fig. 5].
7. Test the security of the Tool Shackle by sliding it up and down both ends of the tool,
ensuring it won’t slide off in the event of a drop.
8. Attach a tool lanyard to complete an appropriate tethering system [fig. 6].

USING YOUR TETHERING SYSTEM
1. Always keep tools tethered while at heights. When exchanging tools, use one of the
following methods:
a. Use a 100% tie-off by ensuring the tool is tethered to a secondary anchor—or
secured in a rated container—before disconnecting from the initial anchor point.
b. Exchange tools over a secure area. (e.g. Inside a controlled container, over a
platform, etc.).
2. Required clearance:
a. When using Squids® Tool Attachments, determine the fully extended length of the
lanyard used, plus the length of the tool between the lanyard’s anchor point and
the nearest person or sensitive object.
INSPECTION
Inspect your tethering system before and after each use. All equipment should be
regularly inspected by a competent person. Ensure the tethering system is properly
attached to the tool and is not damaged. Before each use, check the following:
• Examine webbing, stitching and other soft materials for cuts, tears, heat trauma, frays
or other damage.
• Examine all hardware for rust or corrosion, abnormal distortion (twists, bends), cracks
or breaks, or any other damage.
• Ensure carabiners and their gates function and lock properly. Examine swivels,
modular buckles, and any other components, to ensure proper function and that there
is no damage.
• Examine the Tool Attachment position for bunching or stress indicating the tool has
been involved in a drop.
• Examine markings on the product and labels for legibility.
• If any part of the tethering system has knowingly been involved in a drop, it must
immediately be taken out of service and replaced. If any tethering system component
fails any part of an inspection, discard and replace the product immediately.
STORAGE AND CARE
• Store tool lanyards in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight.
• To clean, use mild soap and water. Air dry.
