Note:
The
default interface setting is print server mode. If you are setting
up the card for
use
in the
Novell Net Ware
environment, you will
need to determine whether you want to set up the Ethernet Card in
server,
remote printer, or Auto PrintServer/Remote mode.
If
you want to operate you printer in more than one network
environment,
install the interface
for
each network as
described
in
the following chapters.
Terms and Concepts
A
node address
is a set of numbers that gives an item a unique
identity, including a printer on a network.
The file
server
stores data required for the Ethernet Card to operate
as a print server. Each Ethernet Card print server has
one
master
file server, which you designate during initial setup.
A
print queue
is a directory on a file server where a print job is
stored as a file, until the print server sends the job to the assigned
printer.
A
print server
moves jobs from print queues to printers.
A
remote printer
is a shared printer connected elsewhere on the
network, but under the control of a NetWare print server.
Traditionally, a remote printer is connected to a network
workstation running NetWare’s RPRINTER, but the Ethernet
Card can also function as a remote printer.
A
status sheet
prints each time the Status Sheet button of the
Ethernet Card is pushed. If the Card is installed as a print server,
the status sheet lists the configurations of the Ethernet Card on
each network.
