Problems related to accessing the web page of capt
2
web
–
Q: capt
2
web is configured to automatically retrieve its IP address using DHCP. How can I find out the IP
address of capt
2
web ? A:
The easiest way is, if your DHCP and DNS server setup supports resolving the
host name. Then you are able to access capt
2
web directly by
http://<hostname>
without entering
the IP address. See chapter
6.2
for details.
If your server does not support host names, connect to the console with a PC and enter the command
ip<ENTER><ENTER>
(see chapter
7.3
). This will display the IP address capt
2
web is using.

Q: When I connect capt
2
web directly to my PC, I cannot access the web site using the IP address configured
in capt
2
web ?
A:
Follow these steps:
∗
Check, if the network interface on your computer has link. If not, make sure, it is configured to
detect link speed automatically (auto-negotiation enabled).
∗
Check which IP address your interface is using. Under Windows, open a command prompt and type
ipconfig
. This will show the IP address and subnet mask of your interface. Check with the
console (see chapter
7.3
), which IP address is configured in capt
2
web . If your Windows computer’s
IP address is in the address range
169.254.X.X
, this means that the interface is configured to
get an IP address assigned automatically. Either change the IP address to a static IP or configure
the capt
2
web IP address and subnet mask to
169.254.X.X
:
255.255.0.0
using the console
menu. Make sure, the IP address differs from the IP address of your computer.
∗
Try to
ping
the capt
2
web module using the command prompt.

Problems related to capturing and displaying data
–
Q: When I reload the page and I start the capture again, some "old" packets are displayed again, even though
I cleared the packet list previously.
A:
Note, that reloading the page is similar as if you were restarting a PC application. The fact that
you cleared the packet list previously will not be "remembered". What happens is, that the first time
the browser is accessing capt
2
web again, it will retrieve all packets that are currently available in the
ring-buffer of capt
2
web . Just click on the button "Clear packets" again.
